16th February was an illustrious day for Expotel, one of the UK's leading independent hotel reservations, business travel and conference and event management agencies. All Expotel staff who have worked for and achieved NVQs over the past 12 months were celebrating at an award ceremony hosted by Damar College at the Alma Lodge Hotel in Stockport. Expotel won the Employer of the Year award for its commitment to training and development.

The Mark Aspinall award for special achievement was given to Expotel's Luke Wilson, Hotel Reservations Consultant and, Sue Herbert Daniels, Client Services General Manager won runner up in the Supervisor of the Year award.

NVQs are designed to develop people within a work environment to an external standard set by the relevant skills council. Assessment is predominantly through assessment in the workplace.

"We were delighted to win the Employer of the Year Award," says Jane Wheeler, Head of Human Resources at Expotel. Here at Expotel we invest heavily in our training and development programmes for staff. We believe in continuous professional development; together with each member of staff, we create a bespoke development programme for their role within the organisation and their professional aspirations.

"Expotel is a great supporter of the NVQ training system and are proud to have 10 members of staff receiving their NVQ awards today and 12 people currently training for their qualifications."
